Episode 2: The Night Before Dawn – Preparing for ANZAC Day 2025

ANZAC Week in Kanchanaburi, Thailand

As ANZAC Day draws near, we are standing at the threshold of something significant. Tonight, we are at the Bridge on the River Kwai, reflecting on the journey that has led us here. Tomorrow, 25 April 2025, we will stand at Hellfire Pass for the 80th Anniversary Dawn Service, and the weight of the history here is tangible.

24 April – The Night Before the Dawn Service

As night falls in Kanchanaburi, we feel the quiet anticipation building. Tomorrow is a day of remembrance, and tomorrow we will descend into the Hellfire Pass to honour the lives lost, the suffering endured, and the stories that must never be forgotten.

We are attending the 80th Anniversary Dawn Service at Hellfire Pass on 25 April 2025. It will be a moment of reflection, respect, and tribute. Hellfire Pass, carved through rock by men who faced unimaginable hardships, is a place of power and remembrance. We stand on the eve of this service, ready to walk in the footsteps of those who came before us.

A Glimpse Into the Past

To help you understand the significance of this moment, we’ve shared photos from past trips to Kanchanaburi. These powerful images offer a window into the history we are here to honour. From Hellfire Pass to the Bridge on the River Kwai, these photos will inspire you to reflect on the sacrifices made by those who suffered here.

Why This Matters

For us, this journey is personal. My great uncle tragically passed away along the Thai-Burma Railway, just one month before the POWs were to be repatriated. His story—and the stories of so many others—remind us why we must gather in remembrance each year.

On 25 April, we will walk in their footsteps, and we invite you to join us in spirit for this 80th Anniversary Dawn Service.

25 April – Join Us for the Live Broadcast

The 80th Anniversary Dawn Service at Hellfire Pass will be broadcast LIVE on 25 April 2025. We want you to be there with us, no matter where you are in the world. Pay your respects to the men who gave everything on this very railway. The service will be a moment of profound reflection and reverence.
